Three Things: New Year’s Party Edition

2012 January 2

…And we’re back! Happy New Year, everyone. How did your celebrations fare? I dearly hope you were able to showcase a few of those party tricks I know you’ve been practicing. This week we’re continuing the festive mood, ringing in the new year with a trio of parties. At what sort of New Year’s Eve party would your protagonist find him- or herself? Unless, perhaps, your character chose not to celebrate the new year with champagne. In that case, here’s what was missed:

Archibald Motley, Cocktails, about 1926. Oil on canvas. Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, MA.

Charles Dana Gibson, They Are Only Collecting the Usual Fans and Gloves. Pen and ink. From Sketches and Cartoons collection, 1898.

New Year’s Eve, 1956. Ektachrome slide. Via tterrace, on Shorpy.
