National Geographic Kids author Lia Kvatum is coming to Red Balloon to share the fascinating true story of Yasha, an orphaned Asiatic Black (Moon) Bear found in Russia! Hear Yasha’s miraculous story and learn about the two young scientists that taught him how to live in the wild. Young explorers will be fascinated by Lia’s presentation on Moon Bears and the general bear species, and animal lovers will be moved by Yasha’s incredible story, which was just named a 2013 Outstanding Science Trade Book for Students by the National Science Teachers Association and the Children’s Book Council. Lia Kvatum loves to tell stories that inspire and educate. Over the past 15 years, she has researched, written, and produced stories for National Geographic, the Smithsonian Institution, and PBS. She grew up on a farm in western Minnesota, attended Shattuck-St. Mary’s School in Faribault, and graduated from Saint Olaf College in Northfield. She makes her home in Washington, DC with her husband and little girl.
